Mahindra is all set to launch the new XUV500 with a host of changes and updates in new generation avatar that is expected to go on sale sometime around April 2021. The first generation was launched in 2011 and it was company's first new SUV that was built on a stiffer monocoque platform. It'll predominantly be a front-wheel-drive car (with the option of AWD) and, as earlier, will launch with a transversely mounted engine and gearbox. Below you can check it's points:
On the outside, the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 is keen to maintain the identity of the new XUV500. That strong XUV-like stance is remains there, it gets equally large cowl up front and the silhouette still has those outstanding XUV 500 ‘hips’ too. The grille is all-new and also the bottom bumper seams house the ADAS radar plus sensors. Also, there is a pair of interesting ridges on the bonnet and it also gets attention-grabbing C-shaped redesigned headlamps with a stylish new signature pattern that will from a boomerang shape extending down to the bumper and DRLs.
Also, the cheetah-inspired XUV500 will not get those signature paw-such as door handles, instead, the SUV will come with new flush-fitting door handles. It will also offered with sportier 18-inch alloy wheels, new bumpers and new LED taillamps at the back.
On the inside, the vehicle gets a full new interior. Material seats for the lower variants and leather upholstery for the higher variants. Added to this, the whole new layout for the dashboard that comes with two flush-mounted horizontal screens, designed to look like one long panel.
In terms of features, the infotainment screen and instrument cluster combined will give the car a great look. The upcoming XUV 500 will also get flat bottom steering, dual zone climate control, USB fast charging ports at the front and back plus a separate selector for the connected car systems in the center console with cup holders, a rotary dial, HUD (heads up display), lane assist camera monitors, a 360 degree camera, an electronic parking brake, hill hold (for the automatic variant) and drive modes too. The XUV500 will be getting AWD. The Mahindra XUV500 will be getting a complete analogue and a full digital instrument cluster depending on the variant one buys. and . The ADAS system will be available in only those variants with the digital display.
This only test mule comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Of course, it'll still be a 7-seater SUV but might even get optional captain seats for the second row. As far as we talk about safety features, the next-gen XUV500 will have features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist on the upper trims.
The next-gen Mahindra XUV500 will launch with two engine options. First, the all-new 2.2-litre mHawk diesel that made its debut in the second-gen Thar which produces 185hp-53hp more than what it produces under the bonnet of the Thar. Also, there will be a 190hp, 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo petrol too, with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox from Aisin.
