Hyundai Casper (AX1) will be launched in Korea first; India to follow. It will rival the Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite in India.
Hyundai has revealed the look of its new micro-SUV which was called by its internal codename, AX1, however, will be called the Hyundai Casper. The SUV will first go on sale in Korea, possibly before the end of this year. Pre-bookings have already started before the price is announced.
The new Hyundai Casper is smaller than the Kona and Venue SUVs. For comparison, at length of 3600 mm, it's is shorter and narrower but is taller, with a 2,400 mm wheelbase. It is based on Hyundai's K1 car platform Let's have a look on its key details.
The Casper has been seen abroad multiple times, the front bumper comes with front grille which is offered in two options. One gets triangular pattern vents and is finished in silver, while the second option gets a blacked-out grille with a gloss black stripe. Also, there are several unique design elements, split setup for circular LED headlamps with DRLs, LED taillights, overall upright and boxy silhouette.
Like Maruti Swift, door handles for the back doors are mounted on the C-pillar. The quirky theme at front has been carried over to rear end of the hatch as well.
Other styling highlights include a shark-fin antenna, blacked-out A-pillars, a brake light with roof-mounted spoiler at rear, and dual-tone ORVMs. The cabin is not expected to be the most spacious of all from the looks of it, and is strictly a four-seater. Despite being an entry-level car, it will also become one of the smallest passenger car to be available with a standard-size sunroof.
Hyundai confirms the Casper mini-SUV will be offered with two engine options, a 1.0-litre naturally aspirated engine making out 76 hp and 1.0-litre turbocharged unit producing 100hp. Both engines will be available with four-speed manual and automatic transmission.
While, the 1.0-litre turbo charge engine could be reserved for higher variants to keep the costs down.
Price and Launch
The Hyundai Casper is expected to go on sale in coming weeks with a price range of Rs 6 - 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
