The India operations of Hyundai was set up on 6 May 1996. When Hyundai entered India in 1996, there were only5 major auto players including Hindustan, Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Premier, and Mahindra. Daewoo was also there, it had just entered the Indian market with its flagship sedan Cielo. Ford, Honda, and Opel entered the Indian market in 1995.
