The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has announced that it is mandatory for all the vehicle carrying medical grade oxygen to have a Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) device as per AIS 140.
As per the ministry, the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic has made oxygen supply to hospitals essential. Hence, vehicles without national permit carrying oxygen also need to be fitted with Vehicle Location Tracking device as per AIS 140.
FADA (Federation of Automobile Dealers Association) Maharashtra Chapter has also announced a donation of Rs 10 lakh to aid installation of GPS devices on 250 oxygen tankers. The announcement came after the meeting between Amar Jatin Seth, state chairperson, FADA Maharashtra, and Dr Avinash Dhakane, Transport Commissioner, Maharashtra.
The move will enable the transport department to track oxygen tankers round the clock on a single dashboard in the Transport Commissioner’s office.
Mobile Automation India (MOBA) is roped in for this initiative to deliver the required installation in a time bound manner. The oxygen tankers will become GPS enabled from the week starting May 3, 2021.
GPS enabled oxygen carrying vehicles will help the authorities to better plan the delivery and transportation of oxygen. It will also enable smooth interstate movement of vehicles and if required, authorities can easily make green corridors on the basis of location of the vehicle.
