The government on Friday further extended the validity of motor vehicle documents like registration certificates (RC), driving licenses (DL), fitness certificates, and permits till June 30, 2021, to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In an advisory to states issued on December 27, 2020, MoRTH had extended the validity of documents in reference to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, till March 31, 2021. Before that, similar extensions were provided on March 30, 2020, June 9, 2020, and August 24, 2020, due to lockdown because of the coronavirus outbreak.
The ministry said in a tweet,
Taking into consideration the grim situation still continuing due to conditions for prevention of spread of COVID-19, MORTH has advised State and UT Govts that the Fitness, Permit (all types), License, Registration, or any other concerned documents treated to be valid till June, 30.
The ministry said in an advisory to states in another tweet, it is advised that the documents whose validity has expired since February 1, 2020, would be treated to be valid till June 30, 2021.
Stating that this may be the last advisory in this regard, the ministry has asked to DGPs, principal secretaries and secretaries, department of transport, transport commissioners of states, and UTs to implement this advisory in letter and spirit, so that people don't seem to be troubled or face difficulties.
According to the ministry, the move will help out citizens in availing transport-related services while maintaining social distancing in view of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
