India to Export Electric Vehicles to 100 Countries: A Landmark Move Towards Global Leadership

26 Aug 2025

India is stepping into a new era of electric mobility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the intentions of India to export electric vehicles to more than 100 countries, many in Europe and Asia, largely allowing for India to show evidence of what is possible with modern, sustainable modes for transportation. Not only does this signal more than simply exporting cars, it represents the ability of India to build sustainable, dependable cars and sell them in the global marketplace. In fact, Gujarat’s Maruti Suzuki’s e-Vitara will be the first vehicle sent from the automaker’s new facility.

The impact of exports of electric vehicles is expected to have a tremendous uplifting impact for a nation, including jobs for citizens of India, foreign direct investment, and with much improvement for India as a viable manufacturing powerhouse. Furthermore, the significantly “cleaner” form of transportation should contribute to less pollution in the world. With this development, the Indian government has signaled a balance for the opportunity of economic development instead of an unsustainable global future for all modes of transportation.

India’s Entry into the Global EV Market

Recently, in recent years, we have seen large expansion in India’s Electric Vehicle (EV) market, driven by a variety of government programs (FAME – Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles), tax incentives, and increasing domestic manufacturing capabilities. To see an announcement promoting the export of EVs at this scale demonstrates both the capabilities of the Indian manufacturing capability, and India’s resolve and intention to address climate change through sustainable mobility solutions.

Leading this global charge is Maruti Suzuki’s first vehicle, the e-Vitara, which is being produced at the Hansalpur plant in Gujarat. The facility is designed to manufacture EVs, and is fully capable of implementing international quality standards facilitating EV exports from India, with the launch of the e-Vitara suggesting that India is poised to take its place as a serious player on the global automotive stage.

Boost to the Domestic Economy

Expanding EV exports to over 100 countries will create economic benefits that go far beyond the immediate growth of exports:

  • Job creation: Increased production represents thousands of jobs in manufacturing, logistics, and other related sectors.
  • Technology development: Working with global automotive and battery companies will build local knowledge and expertise.
  • Foreign exchange earnings: It will improve India’s trade and strengthen its economy, as awareness of ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ grows and we expand into international markets.

This step establishes India as a manufacturing superpower in “Make in India, Make for the World.”

Alongside exports, India’s domestic pre-owned EV market will also expand. Before buying or selling, it’s always wise to check a vehicle’s service history for complete transparency.

India’s First Domestically Made Semiconductor Chip

By the end of 2025, India anticipates the launch of its first-ever fully domestically produced semiconductor chip is a massive milestone for India’s tech sector. Semiconductors are small parts of modern devices that serve as the “brains” of devices ranging from cell phones and cars to advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and next-generation networks such as 6G.

Up until this point, India depended largely on other countries for semiconductors which sometimes caused delays and costs during global slowdowns. Now by producing its own project India will decrease dependency on other countries and make a giant leap to being self-reliant in technology. This can lead to the creation of new industries and jobs, to be stronger in the global tech market, as well as not just using and purchasing tools and technologies from other nations, but making them for a better future.

Why This is a Game-Changer:

  • Endurance: Lessens dependency on imports during global shortages in chips.
  • US Manufacturing: Drives development in high-tech industries such as robotics, AI, and telecommunications.
  • Global Presence: Makes India a strategic player in future technologies.

The Bigger Picture: A Tech-Powered, Sustainable Future

  • Self-Reliance in Strategic Areas: By investing in electric vehicles along with semiconductor manufacturing, India is decreasing the reliance on foreign technology and imports.
  • Global Competitiveness: While the goal is national security, these efforts position India as a key competitor in two of the most important sectors of the future, clean mobility and advanced electronics.
  • Job Creation and Skills Development: Growth in EV manufacturing and semiconductor factories will create many thousands of jobs and, more importantly, upskill Indians in the latest technologies.
  • Positive Economic Impact: The trade of EVs and chips produced in India will increase foreign direct investments, link trade to India’s rapidly expanding capacity, and meaningfully contribute to economic growth.
  • Benefits for the Environment: Electric cars reduce carbon emissions, which is a small win in our fight against climate change for both India and the planet.
  • Future Technologies: Semiconductor manufacturing in India will provide support for the technologies of the future, such as AI, robotics, 6G communications, and smart infrastructure.
  • Strengthening International Standing: In sum, a better understanding of India as it is not just a consumer of technology but a supplier and contributor to the World.

Conclusion

This is more than an economic development; it’s a courageous statement of India’s potential. By integrating sustainable technologies with innovative advancements, India is establishing a course for itself to become a global leader in industries that will define the future.

The journey ahead is ambitious, but the direction is clear: One country is converting itself from technology consumer to technology creator and the world is watching.
