Offline E-Challan Payment System in Kolkata
Even though online payment is quick and easy, to some it may be more convenient to pay their challan in person especially if they would like to speak to a traffic official in person, confirm the details of the violation, or are just uncomfortable transacting online.
Offline payment can take place in a few simple steps in Kolkata:
Go to the nearest Kolkata Traffic Police or Regional Transport Office (RTO).
- You should be able to find traffic police offices in many parts of the city. The central location at: Lalbazar is probably the main one. If you don't know where the nearest branch will be, you can contact the Kolkata Traffic Police helpline or their website should have the latest addresses.
Provide the challan or details of the vehicle.
- You should bring a printed e-challan or SMS notification, but, you may have no other option than to provide your vehicle's registration number or driving license number and the officer will be able to trace your pending challans in the system.
Complete the payment.
- The traffic counters will accept cash payments and debit/credit cards; some counters will also accept UPI payments. Ensure you pay the TOTAL amount, only the total amount is acceptable, and partial payments cannot be accepted.
Generate an Official Receipt.
- You will receive a stamped and signed receipt once the payment is processed. Hold on to the receipt as proof of payment in case of future disputes.
What to Do If You Receive a Wrong E-Challan in Kolkata
Firstly, you must gather any evidence you can that supports your argument. This might include dashcam footage, parking tickets, toll slips or GPS data to show when you were or were not at the location, if you collected any evidence you should keep this safe it will be crucial to your appeal.
Gathering Evidence
Access the official website - https://parivahan.gov.in - and find the “Grievance” tab in the e-challan services.
Online Dispute
Proceed to the Parivahan E-Challan Grievance Portal. Once logged in, you can upload your evidence and then fill out the dispute form explaining the reasoning behind the dispute. This will then be submitted online and await processing by the appropriate authority.
Offline Dispute (Optional)
If you would prefer to do the matter offline, you can visit your nearest Kolkata Traffic Police Office. Bring with you your vehicles RC, proof of ID and the evidence you have collected. You can submit a written appeal and request a receipt for your appeal.
Follow Up
Once you have successfully submitted your appeal you can check the status of your challan online after approximately 7 - 10 working days. You can check your status using the CarInfo app or through the parivahan portal to see if the challan has been adjudicated in your favor, or if it has possibly been upgraded or canceled.
Keep All Relevant Evidence & Reference Numbers
After filing your dispute, be sure to save copies of your application, dispute ID, and supporting evidence, in case you want to follow up or re-verify in the future.
Contact the Kolkata Traffic Help Line (If Necessary)
