I checked my Sikkim e-challan here after hearing about a violation near MG Marg. The details appeared clearly and helped me understand the exact issue.

  • Consequences of Ignoring E-Challan Payments

If you do not pay your Sikkim challan on time, it can really land you in a lot of legal trouble and financial headache. According to rules and regulations relating to traffic in Sikkim, if you do not pay your challan within 60 days of it being issued:

How to Pay E Challan in Sikkim Offline

Some people don't like online payments and that's perfectly fine. You can still use the offline method:

    1. Go to your nearest Traffic Police office or RTO in Gangtok, Namchi, Mangan, etc.
    2. You just need to give your challan number, or your vehicle registration number
    3. Then, pay in cash, card, or UPI.
    4. Then ask for a stamped receipt from the officer (this is your proof of payment).

What to Do If You’ve Got a Wrong E-Challan

While Sikkim’s e-challan system is very automated, errors can still happen. Sometimes a camera may misread a number plate or refer to the wrong offence on your vehicle. If you believe a challan is wrong, you are entitled to appeal it.

    Step 6

Go to the Parivahan Grievance Portal

Access the official website - https://parivahan.gov.in - and find the “Grievance” tab in the e-challan services.

Organize your evidence to support your dispute. You could include:

    • Dashcam footage
    • Parking slips
    • Toll receipts or GPS location history
    • Images or documents showing your vehicle was elsewhere

    Complete a Dispute Form

Put the correct vehicle registration number, challan number, and upload all files. In the explanation area of the form, specify the details of your dispute.

    Wait for Verification

Your complaint will be forwarded to be verified by the Sikkim RTO or traffic department. Once verified, the wrongful challan could be cancelled or amended.

Go to the Traffic Police Headquarters (if required)

In the event that you receive no communication in a few working days or if the matter is urgent, you may go to the nearest traffic police office, or the Traffic. Make sure you bring the originals and photocopies of all the relevant documents, such as your vehicle RC, driving licence and the e-challan notice.

Appear at the virtual court or at the physical court (if needed)

In some cases, if the matter is unresolved through the Sikkim Traffic Police, the e challan can be moved to the Virtual Court Sikkim, or Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Here you'll have the opportunity to challenge the fine with your proof. You can check the status of court cases or the hearing dates pertaining to your challan at https://vcourts.gov.in

    What is Sikkim Traffic Challan?

It's great fun driving on the curvy and scenic roads of Sikkim from the busy MG Marg in Gangtok to the always congested Deorali and Ranipool crossings, to Zero Point, Namchi, or Pelling. With both tourism and local traffic on the rise, the Sikkim Traffic Police have set up digital surveillance so that roads become safer.
