What Happens If You Don’t Pay E Challan Surat?
If you ignore or delay paying a traffic challan issued in Surat, it can result in serious repercussions. According to the Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) and the enforcement rules followed by the Gujarat Traffic Police, the process escalates:
Within 60 Days: Challan can be paid without penalty online or offline.
After 60 Days: Additional late fees may apply. Traffic police may begin recovery steps.
After 90 Days: Challan may be forwarded to Lok Adalat or traffic court for legal action.

Continued Non-Payment: Vehicle registration may be blocked or blacklisted by the RTO.
Repeat Offences: Driving licence (DL) may be suspended. The vehicle could be seized during checks.
RTO Service Delay: Pending challans can delay ownership transfer, fitness renewal, or NOC processing.
How to Pay Surat E Challan Offline?
Go to a Local Surat Traffic Police Station
- Go to the nearest traffic police station in Surat.
- Carry your vehicle number or a copy of the challan notice.
- The officer will check for any outstanding challans.
- You can pay by:
• Cash
• Card (POS machine available at some locations) - Request a receipt after you pay to keep track of your transactions.
Pay Directly to a Traffic Police Officer
- If you have been stopped for a traffic violation, usually traffic police officers in Surat will hold handheld e-Challan machines.
- You can make the payment directly using:
• Cash
• Card
• UPI (QR code) - After making a payment, always demand a printed challan receipt or SMS confirmation.
Pay at e-Gram or CSC (Common Service Centres)

How to File a Complaint for a Wrong Surat Traffic Challan
If you received the wrong traffic challan in Surat, you can dispute it through the following official ways:
Go to the Parivahan Grievance Portal
Access the official website - https://parivahan.gov.in - and find the “Grievance” tab in the e-challan services.
Organize your evidence to support your dispute. You could include:
• Dashcam footage
• Parking slips
• Toll receipts or GPS location history
• Images or documents showing your vehicle was elsewhere
Complete a Dispute Form
Put the correct vehicle registration number, challan number, and upload all files. In the explanation area of the form, specify the details of your dispute.
Wait for Verification
Your complaint will be forwarded to be verified by the Surat RTO or traffic department. Once verified, the wrongful challan could be cancelled or amended.
Go to the Traffic Police Headquarters (if required)
In the event that you receive no communication in a few working days or if the matter is urgent, you may go to the nearest traffic police office, or the Traffic. Make sure you bring the originals and photocopies of all the relevant documents, such as your vehicle RC, driving licence and the e-challan notice.
Appear at the virtual court or at the physical court (if needed)
In some cases, if the matter is unresolved through the Surat Traffic Police, the e challan can be moved to the Virtual Court Surat, or Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Here you'll have the opportunity to challenge the fine with your proof. You can check the status of court cases or the hearing dates pertaining to your challan at https://vcourts.gov.in
