How to Register a Vehicle in RTO Bihar

All motor vehicles in Bihar must be registered under the Motor Vehicles Act before they can be legally used on public roads. When a vehicle is purchased from a dealer, it is usually issued a temporary registration number, which is valid for 30 days. The owner must apply for permanent registration at the RTO before the 30-day period expires.

  1. Locate the Nearest Bihar RTO Office
    Visit the RTO that represents your local zone (e.g., BR01 - Patna, BR06 - Muzaffarpur).
  2. Fill Form 20 (Application for Registration)
  3. Submit the Required Documents (See next section below for document checklist)
  4. Pay Registration Fees & Road Tax

How to Transfer Vehicle Ownership in Bihar

When you sell, gift, or inherit a vehicle in Bihar, you must transfer the ownership of the vehicle. You must complete the ownership transfer with your local RTO Bihar office within 30 days after transferring ownership of the vehicle or risk penalties!

How to Renew RC in Bihar RTO

The validity of the Registration Certificate (RC) of a private vehicle in Bihar is for 15 years. After 15 years from the initial date of registration, you will be required to renew it every 5 years to drive on public roads legally.

  1. Visit Parivahan Portal or Bihar RTO Office
    • Go to parivahan.gov.in
    • Select “Vehicle Related Services” → Choose Bihar and your RTO location
  2. Fill RC Renewal Form (Form 25)

How to Pay Road Tax in Bihar

  1. Visit the official Bihar Transport Department site
  2. Navigate to the Tax Payment area on the Homepage.
  3. Click on the option relating to registered vehicles in Bihar.

How to Apply for Driving Licence in Bihar

Requirements for Permanent Driving License in Bihar
