E Challan Kolkata : Check and Pay Traffic Challan Online
Traffic in Kolkata is very different than in any other city in India. From the yellow cabs that fill Chowringhee to trams crawling along with buses or scooters at speed across narrow lanes, Kolkata traffic is always bustling with activity but with this busy traffic comes an important reality: e challans.
An e-challan in Kolkata is a digital traffic ticket issued by the Kolkata Traffic Police for violation such as overspeeding, not wearing a helmet, breaking a red light, or parking in a no parking area. E challans will be generated from the CCTV cameras, speed sensors, and manual checks that will be uploaded online for transparency.
This makes it easy for drivers and authorities - to not get confused, no lines waiting to pay, and no lost receipts. Every vehicle owner will instantly be able to view, track and pay challans online, using the official Parivahan portals or through trusted sites such as CarInfo.

Offline E-Challan Payment System in Kolkata
Even though online payment is quick and easy, to some it may be more convenient to pay their challan in person especially if they would like to speak to a traffic official in person, confirm the details of the violation, or are just uncomfortable transacting online.
Offline payment can take place in a few simple steps in Kolkata:
- Go to the nearest Kolkata Traffic Police or Regional Transport Office (RTO).
- You should be able to find traffic police offices in many parts of the city. The central location at: Lalbazar is probably the main one. If you don't know where the nearest branch will be, you can contact the Kolkata Traffic Police helpline or their website should have the latest addresses.
- Provide the challan or details of the vehicle.
- You should bring a printed e-challan or SMS notification, but, you may have no other option than to provide your vehicle's registration number or driving license number and the officer will be able to trace your pending challans in the system.
- Complete the payment.
- The traffic counters will accept cash payments and debit/credit cards; some counters will also accept UPI payments. Ensure you pay the TOTAL amount, only the total amount is acceptable, and partial payments cannot be accepted.
- Generate an Official Receipt.
- You will receive a stamped and signed receipt once the payment is processed. Hold on to the receipt as proof of payment in case of future disputes.
